MILLENNIUM LAKE
News and Prospects 3rd February2012
Frosty nights, ice on Millennium Lake has not been a problem so far but best to phone shop for updates on conditions.
We are now being supplied trout from 'Westacre Trout Farm' situated in Kings Lynn, Norfolk. The quality of the fish is excellent and we hope you enjoy catching them.
The trout farm uses three different strains of trout throughout the year, buying in the fish as eggs and rearing them on to any desired size required. The current variety of trout being delivered to us are the 'Cam-loop' trout, which come from the 'Trout Lodge', near Seattle in the USA.
Stocking is being carried out at least weekly with lake stocks at around 650 fish. We have managed to obtain a number of larger fish around the 4lb mark and these are now being included in the regular stocking.
Recent cold weather has seen water temperatures at their lowest values since last winter, now below 6*C. Expect fish to go much deeper than of late so best to use sinking lines fished slowly to tempt trout. try various lures and possibly boobies ( boobies not allowed on catch and release)
Would all anglers please note that we continue to find very large quantities of discarded line on the banks. The fishery rules state that all discarded line should be disposed of safely, ie. cut into small lengths and place in rubbish bins or take home with you to dispose of. If you see discarded line on the bank please pick it up, even if its not yours. Any angler found leaving discarded line on the banks mar be banned from fishing. Nylon or co-polymer does break down in sunlight but fluorocarbon does not and hangs around for a lengthy period of time. Both these materials get wrapped around birds legs and cause loss of limbs, not a pretty sight.
Please ensure all returns, including nil returns, are filled in when you leave with numbers killed and numbers released. These returns are essential for correct stocking levels in order to give all anglers a sporting chance of catching fish.
We regret that any angler consistently not leaving returns may be banned from fishing
We have changed the supplier of our trout and are currently getting them from West Acre Trout Farm, Kings Lynn. The quality of fish is excellent and we hope you find them to your liking!
The lodge on the right as you arrive has now been refurbished and is left open at all times. There are plenty of tables and chairs within the lodge for customers to sit in comfort for refreshments, tea and coffee are available.
RIB LAKE
New fish for Rib Lake!
Friday 25th November saw the addition of another 100 Carp to the Rib Lake. Most were CommenCarp with just a handful of Mirrors. The fish have come from Lake Mockbeggarand are reported to put on weight very quickly! They are however only normal strain carp, so will hopefully be with us for many years to come! Most of our coarse fish are purchased from the Quiet Sports company, who you can view online.
Pike fishing - Pike still being caught up to lower twenties. Various baits being used including trout, roach and of course, mackerel! A few larger pike have been found dead in the lake, so please remember that fish care is paramount! Correct tackle and handling of fish is very important, as is keeping watch of your rods at ALL times, as deep hooking pike is not wanted!
Carp -The few brave carpers that we are seeing at the moment have been catching some of the new stock along with some of our longer lived residents! Mr Cutmorehas reported catching a lump of 27lb recently, along with others in the same session.
Always worth trying more natural baits at this time of year, such as corn or maggot on a maggot ring.
Pike Angling at Rib Valley.
We ask that all anglers fishing for Pike and Perch at Rib Valley treat our fish with respect and care.
To help with looking after the well being of our Pike and Perch we want all anglers to do or have the following;
1) All anglers fishing for Pike/Perch MUST have a pair of forceps (to remove hooks from caught fish)
2) All anglers MUST have a suitable sized landing net.
3) A wire trace MUST be used when fishing for Pike or Perch.
4) Ensure your rod and line are suitable for catching large Pike; no low breaking strain lines to be used.
5) When removing Pike/Perch from water to unhook them, please use an unhooking mat to put them on.
6) NO live baiting permitted.
7) All fish must be returned to the water as soon as possible.
8) UNDER NO CONDITION CAN ANY OF OUR FISH BE KILLED OR TAKEN AWAY.
Juniors pike fishing must be accompanied by a responsible adult, whom is familiar with the handling of these large fish and their safe return Following these rules and using your common sense will ensure the fish in our lakes stay healthy and will be here for years to come.
Please note that night fishing is limited to ten anglers and pegs must be pre booked and pre paid. Please do not just turn up and expect a peg as you may well be turned away .

From Dado
Please find attached photos of pike I caught in Rib lake on 10/12/11 weight of fish – around 26 lb bait used – mackerel I had a great time that day and I will be back to get even bigger fish

WESTMILL LAKE
Westmill Lake has now been partially netted to help prevent Cormorant predation of our fish stocks during these cold months. We find as the numbers of fisherman decrease due to poor weather, the number of cormorants increase! You are still able to fish the lodge end of the lake, but both long sides of the lake are now out of bounds.
Best to target silvers and perch and the moment, with the hope of larger fish moving in to investigate. Nice bags of Roach being caught.
As water temperatures begin to drop, smaller quantities of ground bait is required as fish eat less in the cold as their metabolism slows down. A better approach at this time of year is 'little and often'. Target the smaller silver fish such as Roach and Perch and hopefully as the day progresses, the larger fish will move in on your swim.
Please limit ground bait to little and often rather than tipping buckets full into your swim
Coarse fish species in all lakes are for pleasure angling only and at no time can be killed and kept by any angler. This includes Carp (Mirror,Commen, Crucian and Ghost), Tench, Bream, Chub, Roach, Rudd, Gudgeon, Pike and Perch. Anyone found doing so will be banned from the fishery and may be subject to prosecution.
